A leader and innovator in the pharma segment, Goodlife is a pharmacy, a wellness center, provides first line primary healthcare, and is introducing access to clinicians through in-store telemedicine services. By increasing access to reliable medication at affordable prices, GoodLife Pharmacies is having a direct impact on the quality of life, and wellness of East Africa’s increasingly affluent population. The company has quickly grown to 23 stores, with plans to expand its footprint to 100+ stores over the next five years.
Goodlife has been endorsed by The Pharmaceuticals Society of Kenya, through their Green Cross Audit, as best pharmacy practice in the country. This is in recognition of Goodlife’s ongoing commitment to excellence in pharmacy practice and standards. The Goodlife approach to quality pharmaceuticals, use of innovative technologies across their stores, and customer-centric approach is revolutionising how healthcare is delivered in East Africa.
To-date Goodlife has created over 700 jobs, of which approximately 400 are pharmaceutical professionals. GoodLife plans to expand to over 130 stores by 2020, reaching over 5.5 million consumers. On the 23rd November 2016, LeapFrog Investments announced a $22m investment in GoodLife Pharmacies, the largest pharmaceutical investment in East Africa to-date, and provides the capital and strategic partnership that will serve to accelerate Goodlife’s growth journey.
Dr. Josh Ruxin is the co-founder of GoodLife Pharmacy. In 2013, identifying the need for quality, affordable and accessible pharmaceuticals, Josh co-founded Goodlife Pharmacy with the aim of “helping the nation to look and feel good one person at a time”. In 1999, he co-founded and served as vice president of ontheFRONTIER, a strategy consulting firm. During his five years there and at the Monitor Group, he led projects in a dozen countries and was an advisor to govt and private sector leaders on business strategy and economic development. Ruxin spent 13 years (2002-2015) as a faculty member at Columbia University, where he led the Access Project and Health Builders. Together with his wife, Alissa Ruxin, they built Heaven Restaurant and Boutique Hotel, one of Rwanda’s top destinations. Ruxin is also the author of A Thousand Hills to Heaven: Love Hope and a Restaurant in Rwanda, a memoir of his experiences in Rwanda during the past decade. Josh holds a B.A. in History of Science and Medicine from Yale University, where he was a Truman Scholar. He received a Masters of Public Health from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in History from the University of London, where he was a Marshall Scholar.
COO Peter Barker has built up his own companies or been a senior level partner in several start up pharmacy & non pharmacy businesses both private & corporate. Peter has been responsible for all aspects of operational management ensuring a smooth, efficient & profitable ongoing business model involving continuous improvement. Peter holds a pharmacy degree from the UK and is a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain.
GM For Goodlife Uganda, Veronica, is a commercially-aware project manager with over 7 years experience managing projects for top tier companies in the UK including The Fossil Group, Volkswagen Racing, and the NHS.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in both Business & Management and Project Management. She specializes in structuring and formulating strategies and optimizing operational efficiency to create and develop sustainable businesses.
CFO Chris Kieu has been previously engaged at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte & Touche, ZK Group (Pty), Diageo and Africa Development Bank spanning over 17 years. He has proven experience and specializes in Strategic Financial Management, Financial Accounting and Audits, Management accounting, General administration management and Project management. He holds a Bsc Finance from United States International University and is a Certified Chartered Accountant and a member of ACCA (UK).
Chief Marketing Officer, Karen Gikunda previously worked as Sales Executive at Radio Africa, Account Manager and Director at MCL Saatchi & Saatchi and Brands Manager at Distell.
Karen is a superb marketing professional with over 10 years of experience managing top tier, fast growing brands in Kenya and the region. Karen has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, (Economics Major, and Sociology Minor) and is a member of the Marketing Society of Kenya.
Dr. Robert Kimbui is the Chief pharmacist for Goodlife Pharmacy Kenya. He is a licensed pharmacist, with over ten years’ experience in health systems strengthening, supply chain management, regulatory affairs, public private partnerships and pharmaceutical distribution. He has worked in the public, private and development sectors of health having worked for the Ministry of Health - Kenya, Laborex Kenya Ltd, Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF) and Management sciences for Health(MSH). He is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya and holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy, Msc Operations and supply chain and Msc Health economics and policy qualifications.
Business Development Director Gabriel Ochieng’ most recent role was as the Division Head responsible for Technologies, Financial Services & Retail at FEP group of Companies. He brings wealth of multi-industry experience spanning over 21 years having served in senior leadership positions at various organizations including BAT, GlaxoSmithKline, Heidelberg EA , British Council and the FEP Group. He has extensive knowledge of Sub Sahara Africa. He holds both MBA and Msc Strategic Planning qualifications and is a member of ICPAK.
